MUS 111 and MUS 112 - Music Theory I and II
These courses are designed for students interested in pursuing a music degree, as well as those who want a more in-depth understanding of music fundamentals and analysis.  Each course is 4 credit hours, three for lecture class and one for lab.  The lecture portion includes music analysis and writing.  The lab portion includes both ear training and sight singing.

MUS 111 – Music Theory I
Prerequisite:  MUS 110 or permission of the instructor

This class, taught each fall on the Jefferson campus, is designed to introduce students to more detailed analysis of music fundamentals.    Topics include a brief review of music fundamentals, musical analysis, cadences, non-chord tones, two and four-part voice leading, ear training, and sight-singing.

Sight Singing Help

MUS 112 – Music Theory II
Prerequisite:  MUS 111
This class is offered each spring on the Jefferson campus and serves as the continuation of MUS 111.  Similar styles of lecture and lab are used, though the study is more in-depth.  Topics include chorale writing and analysis, diatonic seventh chords, borrowed chords, modulation, and further development of ear training and sight-singing skills.

Key Signature Timed Quiz Practice
MUS 111 Goal:  with 100% accuracy, name the relative major and minor keys for the 9 key signatures provided; also draw 12 requested key signatures; 4 minutes 30 seconds

Chord Spelling Timed Quiz Practice
MUS 111 Goal:  with 100% accuracy, build 32 chords (8 each of major, minor, diminished, and augmented) using the roots provided; 5 minutes
