CIS 130 Lab Assignment 3 – Sending and Receiving Email
You will need a computer
connected to the Internet and your Pipeline username and password (PIN).
Assignment 3- Using Internet Email – What to do:
Note: Since everything on the Internet is always
subject to change without notice, the directions below may not be exact.
1.
Before going to
the lab make sure you have your Pipeline username and password (PIN). This
information should have been mailed to your permanent address when you first
enrolled at

If you have not
already booted up the computer, do so. See Getting
started in the lab on the General Information handout. (All campus lab and library computers are connected to the Internet).

Double-click the
Internet Explorer icon on the computer’s desktop. If the Internet Explorer icon
is not on the desktop, choose Internet Explorer from the All Programs menu
after clicking the Start button.

After Internet
Explorer loads, enter http://www.jeffstateonline.com
in the Address box.

You may have to
view some information pages regarding online registration. If this happens, click
Next that appears at the
bottom of each information page until you reach the Secured Access Login screen
for Pipeline.
7.
Type in your
Pipeline username and password (PIN) into the boxes provided
and then click OK.

Once the My
Pipeline page appears, you should see an e-mail icon on the upper-right side.
Click on the e-mail icon.
9.
Once the e-mail
page appears, click Compose
at the top of the screen to create a new e-mail message.

In the To
box, enter my email address lcrawford@jeffstateonline.com
. In the Enter Subject box, enter: CIS 130 Assignment 3. In the message
box (the big box), type in a brief message that includes your full name, your
CIS 130 class time, and your favorite pet (just for fun).

If the Save a
copy to the ‘Sent’ folder option is not selected with a green check, click
it to check it. You may also select the Request Read Receipt option if
you wish. If you do, the person that receives your message can choose to let
you know that your message was received without replying to your email at that
time.

Click the Send button at the bottom right
of the Compose E-mail window.

After a,
sometimes, considerable delay, you should get a message stating that your
e-mail was sent. Click OK.

Click the Sent folder on the left.
15.
You should see
the e-mail that you just sent listed on the right. Click on that e-mail message
to view it.
16.
In the bottom
pane of the window where the message appears, click Print to print the message. Write your name and Lab 3.1 on the print of the message.

Close the

Click on Logout in the upper left side of
the page to sign out now. The word Logout is quite small and appears below the

Internet Explorer browser window.

Wait a few
business days, and check for a reply from me using the following steps.

Using steps 2-8 above,
return to your Pipeline e-mail.

Once the e-mail
center window opens, click the Inbox
folder and click on the email message from me to open it. Print it. Write your
name and Lab 3.2 on the print of the
message. If you have an error message concerning your message to me instead of
my message, try sending another message to me and check back later for the
reply.

Delete all junk email messages without
opening them. Some may contain viruses or objectionable material.

Close the

Click on Logout in the upper left side of
the page to sign out now. The word Logout is quite small and appears below the

Internet Explorer browser window.
Assignment 3 – What you need to turn in on the due
date:
1.
Print of your e-mail message to me labeled as Lab 3.1.
2. Print of my e-mail reply to your e-mail labeled as Lab 3.2.
