CIS 130 Lab Assignment 8 – Excel Tutorial

You will need to use a computer connected to the Internet.

All lab computers on campus are connected.

 

Assignment 8 (Part One)--- What to do:

1.       Read the General Instructions for the http://scsite.com/selabs Student Edition Labs handout.

2.       Load the http://scsite.com/selabs Student Edition Labs page in Internet Explorer and click on Spreadsheets. It is the sixth selection from the top in the second column. Complete all 9 topics in this tutorial (i.e. you will need to complete 9 quizzes).

3.       If you are finished with the computer at this time, close all open windows and restart the system.

 

Assignment 8 (Part One) - What you need to turn in on the due date:

1.       SPREADSHEETS results (9 topics) labeled as Lab 8-Part One. (You will have more than one printout if you did not complete all 9 topics at one time. Turn in all relevant printouts with your results for all 9 quizzes. )

 

 

Assignment 8 (Part Two) - Microsoft Office Excel 2003 --- What to do:

You will need your Microsoft Office 2003 Brief textbook,
a computer with Windows XP software and at least one blank diskette.

IMPORTANT: Before doing the tutorial, you will need to use the computers in the lab to copy some files to one or two diskettes or you will need to download the data files from the Web using the instructions on the inside back cover of the Office text.

 

1.       Before going to the lab, read pages EX 3- EX 44 in your Office book and make sure that you understand all of the key terms on page EX 44.

2.       In the lab, if you have not already booted up the computer, see Getting started in the lab directions from the General Lab Information handout.

3.       Put a blank formatted 3 ½” high density disk that you label as Excel Data Disk into the drive. Be sure to put your name and class time on the disk label, as well.

4.       Double-click the CIS 130 or Shortcut to CIS 130 folder icon on the computer screen to open it.

5.       Double-click the Office 2003 Data folder icon to open it.

6.       Double click the Excel folder icon to open it.

7.       Right-click the Tutorial.01 folder, then choose Send to and then click 3 1/2 inch floppy. The Tutorial.01 folder and its contents should be copied to your diskette.

8.       Repeat steps 3-6 with another diskette if you wish to make a second copy of the files to use in case you need to start over for any reason.

Open your Office textbook to page EX 3. Read the “Using Excel to Manage Data” chapter and perform the instructions that appear in the yellow boxes on pages EX 5- EX 43.

 

Assignment 8 (Part Two)- What you need to turn in on the due date:

1.       The print outs as identified in the tutorial.

2.      Your 3 1/2 inch floppy disk that you labeled as Excel Data Disk.
