Meet Sheryl K. Colle

     I was born and raised in a little town of about 500 in the middle of Kansas - Little River.  I graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BS in General Science and a diploma in nursing.  After graduation, I worked all areas of nursing in small hospitals and a doctors' office.  In 1973, I began teaching in a diploma nursing program in Hutchinson, Kansas.  I received my Masters Degree in Nursing in 1979 from Wichita State University and helped to develop the ADN program in Hutchinson as the diploma program closed.  After teaching maternity nursing for 16 years in Hutchinson (and paramedic clinicals), I moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where I began teaching nursing fundamentals for a few months.  After the retirement of a maternity nursing instructor, I was able to return to teaching my first love - maternal-newborn nursing.

Outside of my professional life, my passion is my grandchildren and quilting.

My first grandson, Dylan Tyler Colle, was born Sept. 23, 2001, 7 weeks early, weighing 4 lbs, 4 oz.

My second grandson, Christian Taylor Colle, was born Sept. 13, 2003, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, 4 weeks early, weighing 5 1/2 lbs.

My first granddaughter, Maya Muriel Sonnier, was born October 30, 2005, in Bozeman, Montana.  She weighed 6 lbs, 7 oz.

My 2nd granddaughter, Sofia Lee Sonnier, was born June 28, 2007, in Bozeman, Montana.  She weighed 7 lbs, 12 oz.

I took my first quilting class in 1979 and knew instantly that I was hooked!  I enjoy hand and machine piecing and appliquéing.  I have taught quilting at a local quilt shop and at JSCC.  Click here to read the story behind the 9/11 memorial quilt below.
